Cleverly made in nine cast parts, this amusing bronze group depicts Bacchus further tormenting Old Nick by using him as a wheelbarrow to carry his vat of booze for all eternity. It is a "folly" bronze made around the 1900s as a desk or table piece that was for holding cigars or cigarettes. The matches woud be stored in Bacchus' back pack, they would be ignited by striking them on the ribbed surface of Nick's trouser leg and the smokes would be stored in the vat.
It has been silvered in the making. Bacchus has his original glass eyes. They were not made for Old Nick - a further torment?
The group is mounted on the original black marble base.
